Built for a commuting, hybrid workforce
Forsyth County workers average about 30.6 minutes each way to work, according to Census estimates, and plenty of them split the week between an office and a home desk. A Cumming accounting firm may have staff in Dawsonville, Gainesville and Johns Creek. A builder's project managers might not see the office for days. Microsoft 365 is how most of these businesses hold it together, and when it is set up well, people can work from anywhere without a VPN that drops or files emailed back and forth.
What a proper Microsoft 365 setup includes
Many companies bought Microsoft 365 for email and never touched the rest. The default settings leave real gaps. We handle:
- Exchange Online: mail filtering tuned for phishing, shared mailboxes for scheduling and accounts payable, and SPF, DKIM and DMARC records so criminals have a harder time sending mail as you.
- SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive: files organized by department, client or job, with access granted by role instead of to everyone. Personal working files go in OneDrive, and the old shared drive with everything open to everyone goes away.
- Sign-in security: MFA for all users, conditional access to block sign-ins from risky places or unmanaged devices, and legacy authentication switched off.
- Intune: a fresh laptop configures itself the first time an employee logs in, company data is encrypted and a lost phone can be wiped remotely.
- License clean-up: the right plan for each role. We often find companies paying for unused seats or missing security features they assumed they had.
- Teams calling: where it fits, Teams Phone can replace an older office phone system and follow staff to their mobile.
Retiring the old server
Lots of offices in Cumming still keep a server in a closet that was sized for a much smaller company. It holds the shared drive, maybe a QuickBooks file and user logins. When it fails, everyone stops. Shifting the shared drive into SharePoint and sign-ins into Microsoft Entra ID takes that box out of the critical path, so a dark office no longer means idle staff at home.
Some software still needs a server. Certain practice management, estimating, ERP and CAD tools run best on a local or hosted machine. Each program gets looked at on its own merits, often with a call to its maker, before we say what should move. Then we migrate in planned stages, typically on evenings or Saturdays, and keep the old system ready in case we need to fall back.
Industry fit
- Medical and dental offices: Microsoft 365 can support HIPAA when it is configured with a signed business associate agreement, encryption and audit logging turned on. We set that up and document it.
- Construction and trades: SharePoint and Teams give field crews current plans and photos from their phones, and Intune keeps company data on those phones protected.
- Professional firms: client folders with controlled sharing, sensitivity labels for confidential documents and retention settings that match your record-keeping duties.
- Small and home-based firms: a properly secured Business Premium setup gives a five-person company much of what large firms have, without a server.
The internet connection becomes critical
After the move to cloud email, storage and calling, your internet circuit becomes the one thing that has to stay up. Along GA-400, around The Collection at Forsyth and in the busier parts of 30040 and 30041, offices usually have more than one wired provider to choose from. Further north toward Coal Mountain or out near the Lake Lanier shoreline, the choices can be thinner. We help you pick a primary connection and, where downtime would hurt, add a second line or a cellular backup so a cut cable doesn't send everyone home.
Ongoing care
Microsoft adds and changes features constantly, and some changes affect security. We track those changes, read the secure score and risky sign-in reports, set up and remove users, and resize licensing whenever your team changes. When you hire, the new person signs in on their first morning and finds their files, apps and access waiting.
Questions about microsoft 365 & cloud
We're on Google Workspace. Must we switch?
No. We support both. If your software or compliance needs point to Microsoft 365, we'll explain why and plan a move that keeps every email and file.
How long does a move to Microsoft 365 take?
A team of a few dozen usually needs a month or so of groundwork, then the switch happens over one weekend. Very large file shares or tangled permissions stretch that out.
